from what happened last game, i felt we did very well by doing our personal job but things have to be ironed out in terms of team play.
and we need a keeper. yongliang is not a permanent gk although he did perform to expectations but he did not show the kind of commanding presence that a keeper should be made of. what we want is just a keeper with save hands and able to have a good kick.
defensively i thought we were assured, with the 4 having a solid game. but chew yi needs to overlap and ben shouldnt risk when he is the last line of the left. gerald should curb his frequency up the pitch abit. then it will be a marked difference.
midfield is where both me and shem did not hold the midfield to expectations, esp in the 2nd half where both of us were suffering from cramps. melvin played too high up and shld have tracked back more often. on a contrary, darren were too far back at times. shem was playing too deep back and midfield battle became harder. melvin should move in more as his area has lesser action at that pt.
yuzheng played almost a perfect game. full of running, mobile yet strong in the air, perhaps should aid support during throw ins instead of darting back to the centre, providing options to darren and hold the ball abit. yihui also played well by being the link man in midfield to attack. very lively and pacey, earning the penalty as a result. sometimes better options arises and could have pass instead of taking 3 players at a go.
last of all, zhiyung. he was impressive doing his overlapping at his short stint at right back but not much threat during his time there.
yeah thats all. sorry for any offence but i felt hiding wont solve problems and we are all friends. im sure you all wont take it to heart. we all learn together.
I thought we did very well considering that this is our first game after a long time and with some permanent changes to the squard.
Generally, team play is better than in the past but can be still improved. We need more passes about(not just pass forward, which we are doing all the time), we should pass back or sideways when pressured, restrict trying to beat the opponents with your personal skills coz this could cause a quick counter attack from the opponent if you lose the ball. Dont rush to an attack.
We should try to get a permanent keeper but must be able to take goal kick.
I thought the defence was good, Chew Yi was good with the marking and pressuring but should move up more to support me. Wai Kin was good with the ball challenges and was quick to pressure too. Gerald was very fast to recover any loose ball and not afraid to go in for challenges. But should restrict movement up. Ben was doing well on the left side, fighting for the ball.
The wingers, I should track back more often to compact the field during opponent attacks. left wing should move forward more. Wingers should look out for people to cross, to square to, quick 1-2s or cut in (which midfielders and strikers must make themselves available). Cut-ins shouldnt be done too often, cause likewise if we lose the ball, the team have to all rush back to defend. I thought the center midfielders did well defensively, compacting and challenging for the ball but should move up more during attacks too.
Theres one instant when yuzheng got a bouncing ball from outside the box and made a low shot from way out, should hold and look for options. Other than that I thought Yuzheng did very well. I thought Yi Hui did well trying to fight for every ball and to pressure them. Good game too. But he should cut down the super box to box sprints (the one doh got cramp then you just rush forward all the way)
Which reminds me, we should warm up together (to reduce cramps) and cut down on the shots before games to conserve energy.
Alot of positives from this game and remember, we are all improving and becoming more competitive!
i d not have very much comments but from what i saw at my keep line was tat the defence did a very gd job... they defend well n blocked several shots...
Personally,i feel the team did slightly better taking into consideration we have'nt played for quite a while. But we still play like england, always trying to force the ball upfront when the situation calls for a back pass.
Defence - i felt it was good overall except for 1 or 2 lapse in concentration which led to goals.Zhiyung has a lot of potential as his ball control is good and can overlap well.Gerald law was outstanding defensively but i feel he went up too much for our liking.(i dont mean corners)Credit must be given to the other defenders who did their jobs well too..instead of heaping praise on an individual.Chewyi and benloh did their jobs.
Midfield-Melvin side has lesser action during the game so i cant really comment, but he took his chance well and score.Very clinical there.Darren was as usual consistent but i notice he always try to get to the byline and cross when he could have pass to someone in the middle.Anyway this is a minor issue.Daren did well in attack but could have passed to someone who is in a better position to shoot rather than trying for goal.I was playing too deep and trying to conserve energy for fear of not lasting.I am still trying to conquer my big field nerves..but that'll take time.
As for our attack yuzheng did very well.U can say he was the heskey..knocking down balls for the other striker.Yihui was fast but sometimes he try to force his way past the defence when he could have passed around more. But he scored a good goal.
Yongliang is good as gk but his real potential is obviously a foward. But credit to him for playing well in the last 2 games. His shot stopping was great.
If we really want to play like a team, then maybe we should act like one.We should'nt have cliques(is that how u spell it).Team discussion SHOULD NOT be restricted to a few individuals.Halftime talk, pls dont hide one corner with a few guys.Talk to the whole team.I think daren can be a good captain but he should get the team more involved.I feel that with a good team spirit and morale, and further improvements in our play we can go far.
I agree with what shem said about playing like england, what we should strive to is a team that pass around, not only forward.
If we think about how we used to play in the past when we just chiong when we get the ball, we have come a long way and we should continue to strive to improve.
Our fitness all not there, so till we start training together, we can run or train individually.
GK yongliang was good with saves n distribution but his trade lies in the scoring.
as all have mentioned,we need a good commanding PERMANENT goalkeeper. one capable of goalkicks too.
Defence wise chewyi - improved the most and played well consistently gerald n keane - their presence was often felt but can be improved. ben - worked well with darren on e left attacking/defending. zhiyung - did very well too, overlapping n working with melvin.
Overall the defence improved alot and played well, but i think tt the defence n midfield can work better tgt to not allow the opposition to get any goals. afterall, its always good to have a clean sheet.
Midfield, darren - gave lots of problems for opposition on the left. daren - made many good passes n runs. shem - reliable, provided the support for the defence. melvin - did well with his runs on the right flank.
Generally, midfield did well aiding the defence and supporting the attack, but i think tt daren or shem can b more active n daring to challenge for the aerial balls after goalkicks instead of having gerald to do that. we can string more passes from one flank to the other too.
Attack, yi hui - was brilliant with his runs and passes, provided a lot of support for me, great finishing too. gave the opposition defence a lot of problems. me - could have done better with a one-on-one opportunity in the 1st half but shot straight at e keeper. tend to take long shots which can be toothless.
I would say yi hui did really well as the supporting striker and almost like the 5th midfielder, i felt as thou we played 4-5-2.
Anyways, i listed most of the good points cuz i think we played well together even after missing out for so long. i think with more practice we will play better together individually and as a team.
ps: eh i dun like heskey la shem, so er.. hei hei one. LOL
The pre match "warm up" is really useless. I do not see why most of the time we are talking shots 80% of the time when in the real game.. I dun remember any taking shots at that same range.. Maybe 20-30% is fine.. but 80% is overkill
IMO even playing a mini half field leisure football is good for all Say 2 teams against 1 keeper Or Attack vs Defence etc. (Especially this we can correct our own strikers or defenders because we experience it firsthand)
Another thing regarding the offside trap maybe i should clarify The conclusion me and gerald after the first 20 min was we do not play offside trap due to their team not adopting long ball much and we were pushing very high up so we decided not to risk
Secondly, It was between us that we decided I was the last man and so I will be watching the line .(sorry if this wasnt told to wing backs)
Now.. how I feel this thing should not work is this.. --- entire defence line pushing up.. leaving their striker in a offside position.. ( come on no decent striker will see his offside and happily stand there) This will result in defensive line moving too high up.
So what as last man is keep my eye contact near their nearest striker who might break the offside trap. From there , if opponent is in possession, immediately I will look across the line.. and make a decision to play offside trap or not.. if I see anyone drifting off the line, I will pull back and not play.. If I am the only defender after this striker.. Then i will move forward of him and raise my hand...
Simple and worked many times for me before.. Dun remember letting anyone breaking the offside trap In fact all of the balls lobbed into our half are our half clearance which ended up going behind ( I am a culprit a few times too)
Of course it might be prone to any concentration lapse, which is why the role must be clarified at the start
Yep so do let me know if it could be done in a better way

doh- i think its a good suggestion. wat u guys think?
actually we've did the 2 teams 1 keeper before. Near brian's place, the pitch there. Didnt go too well if you can remember, those who were there. Buti think it'll be a really good pracise.
But firstly, we need a pitch to do all these and to train.
ok, my turn to comment, even tho its been a while since the match was played... and i'd probably have forgotten lotsa impt events.
firstly, goalkeeper, altho rightnow we're having a great stand-in, when we do get one, we really need one to be really loud and kaopeh to give the defence more support from behind, v.impt i feel, gives a sense of security, good for defending :>
defence. haven't enjoyed a game as much as this for a long time... movement of the defence was very fluid, benlo, keano and chewyi watched their lines well, and made good tackles, pushed up the line during attacks and managed to hold off our opponents. however, there's still a massive improvement to be made when the opponents are in our area, firstly, never ever ever ever turn your back on the ball after its been shot, might as well not stand there at all. secondly, when the opponents are about to shoot, close them down as fast as possible to prevent the previous situation, applies to midfielders who come back to defend. next, need to communicate, between defenders and between defenders and keepers. impt. call out for ball, set down priority prior to the game, who calls the shots etc. besides that, the defence is as sound as a wall, but in attack, i believe the fullbacks shld always support the side attacking, don't worry about counterattacks, 3 defenders shld be able to hold the offence off till you return
but for more info, go www.shuaiji.blogspot.com read the entry dated 13th sept, its good for defenders and strikers
next, midfielders, doh and shem ran a marathon, personally felt doh's contribution to the game was enormous, tireless runs, good control with the ball, good positioning, and great passes, shem did a great job covering his ass and did the dirty job really well, sweeping up the loose balls and doing his fair share of attacks and interceptions. but, doh and shem should do something about going for headers in midfield, defensive or attacking, don't give the others a chance to get possession, coz if the opposing midfield were stronger in the air, we'd certainly lose a big chunk of possession. melvin and darrenshi did great jobs of finding space and latching onto passes and releasing balls into good positions. melvin- takes too many touches on the ball, shld take care of that, keep the ball closer to you, and certainly for the wingers, you should occassionally try to beat the fullbacks, it'll give a hell lot of space to attack, but on this, the fullbacks gotta keep an eye out as well... constantly support the wingers and open up space for the attack, don't expect the center mids to run there when the ball is lost, it'll soften the core.
Gerald, what you mean too many touches on the ball? can elaborate.
Coz I'd rather we play safe, shield the ball, look for options before doing something instead of rushing to attack, which then we will just be playing street soccer on the field
